Joseph "Joey" Gartner's work experience includes roles in various companies and organizations. In 2008, they served as a Student Intern at The John Marshall Law School Fair Housing Clinic, where they took on responsibilities such as leading a case in federal court and participating in community outreach events. From 2010 to 2011, Gartner worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at The John Marshall Law School. In 2011, they joined Illinois Legal Aid Online as a Post Graduate Fellow. Later that year, they became a Partner at The Law Office of Gartner and Bondavalli, LLP, where they gained extensive experience in employment, housing, and civil rights claims. Gartner successfully represented clients in front of the EEOC and Illinois Department of Human Rights and led a case against the Chicago Housing Authority. In 2015, they started their own practice, The Law Office of Joseph Gartner, and worked as the Principal until October. That same year, Gartner also joined UpRight Law, first as the Manager of Training and Development/Associate Attorney and then as the Director of Intake Training and Compliance. In 2019, Gartner briefly served as the Managing Attorney at John Buchmiller and Associates. In 2020, they became the Contact Center Director at DebtCleanse, before transitioning to the American Bar Association as the Deputy Director and Counsel at the ABA Center for Innovation. In June 2021, Gartner was promoted to the role of Director and Counsel at the ABA Center for Innovation.
Joseph "Joey" Gartner received their Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, Criminal Justice, and Philosophy from Western Michigan University in 2007. Joseph "Joey" then pursued their Juris Doctor (JD) from the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law, where they completed their studies in 2010.
