Natalie Boden

Director, Internal Integrated Communications at American College of Surgeons

Natalie Boden is the Director of Internal Integrated Communications at the American College of Surgeons. Natalie has held this position since November 2021.

Previously, they were the Vice President of The Society of Thoracic Surgeons from April 2012 to November 2021. In this role, they were responsible for the overall strategy and execution of STS's internal and external MarCom efforts, including publications, media relations, patient information, marketing, communications, social media, advertising, website, and corporate relations. Natalie also wrote select remarks and developed presentations for surgeon leaders, and participated in all Board of Directors meetings, Executive Committee meetings, strategy sessions, and retreats.

Boden supervised a department of 8 and related budgets. Key projects they were responsible for included market research; launch of a revolutionary educational e-book; communications strategy for the next-generation of a world-renowned clinical outcomes registry; membership recruitment and retention; implementing a more robust digital marketing strategy using real-time analytics; expanding social media communications; increasing abstracts/attendance at annual meeting; promoting The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, Thoracic Surgery Foundation, and STS advocacy efforts; staff development; executive-level communications; interviewing newsmakers and stakeholders; developing consensus. Natalie was also responsible for content strategy, execution, and analysis of two websites, 10 newsletters (print and electronic), and two podcast series.

Some of their notable successes include expanding and growing the department (from 3 to 8), developing and executing major surveys (member needs assessment, practice data, strategic planning) and resultant initiatives, refreshing the Society's logo and brand, launching multimedia marketing campaigns (print/email/video/podcasts/social media), transitioning from in-person educational conferences to virtual meetings during a pandemic, implementing and expanding a media relations program, managing separate editor and publisher searches for The Annals, and developing print and other materials commemorating various Society milestones (anniversaries, commemorations, presidential addresses).

Natalie Boden has earned an MBA with Academic Distinction in Marketing from Lewis University, as well as a Graduate Marketing Certificate from the same school. Natalie also holds a BA with honors in Broadcast Journalism from Columbia College Chicago.

Natalie Boden reports to David B. Hoyt, Executive Director. They are on a team with Clifford Y. Ko - Director, Connie Bura - Medical Director, and Patricia L. Turner - Director.
