Hironao Okahana has a diverse work experience in the field of education. Hironao is currently the Assistant Vice President and Executive Director of Education Futures Lab at the American Council on Education, where they lead various projects and manages a team. Prior to this, they held the role of Assistant Vice President, Research & Insights at ACE, overseeing research initiatives and managing a team. Hironao has also worked as a Higher Education Program Affiliate & Adjunct Faculty at George Mason University, where they developed and taught graduate-level courses in higher education. Additionally, they have served as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Education at William & Mary - School of Education, teaching a course in higher education management. Earlier in their career, Okahana held multiple positions at the Council of Graduate Schools, including Vice President, Research & Knowledge Development. Hironao started their career as a Policy and Strategy Analyst at Associated Students, California State University, Fullerton, Inc., where they provided research and support for student advocacy efforts.
Hironao Okahana holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in Education with a specialization in Higher Education and Organizational Change from UCLA. Additionally, they also obtained an M.P.P. in Public Policy from UCLA. Prior to that, they completed a B.S. and B.A. in Environmental Science and Policy, as well as Economics, from California State University, Long Beach.
