Tomas Damerau has a diverse work experience spanning over several industries and roles. Tomas is currently working as a Data Scientist at the American Institutes for Research since August 2021. Prior to that, they held the position of Director Ejecutivo de Estudios del Trabajo de la Ciudad de México at Secretaria de Trabajo y Fomento al Empleo from December 2018 to November 2021. In this role, they were responsible for research products and labor market monitoring, providing technical guidance and support to other sectors within the Ministry, and leading the Decent Work Programme for Mexico City.
Before joining the American Institutes for Research and Secretaria de Trabajo y Fomento al Empleo, Tomas worked as a Teaching Assistant and Researcher PHD Student at Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas A.C. from 2014 to 2018. Tomas also served as a Visiting Researcher at DIW Berlin - German Institute for Economic Research from June 2017 to January 2018.
Tomas has also gained experience at international organizations such as The World Bank, where they worked as a Junior Professional Associate from March 2012 to April 2014, and the Inter-American Development Bank, where they started as an Intern under the German Scholarship Program from September 2011 to March 2012.
Additionally, Tomas has worked with the International Labour Organization as a Researcher for their MSc. Thesis from June 2011 to August 2011. Tomas has also served as a Teaching Assistant at Maastricht University in November 2010.
Early in their career, Tomas worked as an International Sales Executive at Import Consultants from August 2009 to July 2010. Prior to that, they gained valuable experience at Hamburg Sud, where they held various roles such as Sales Specialist, Project Developer, and Trainee from 2004 to 2009. During their time at Hamburg Sud, they also coordinated the set-up of a new Optical Filing System in collaboration with offices in Uruguay, Paraguay, and the headquarters.
Tomas Damerau obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Public Policy Analysis, specializing in Residential Electricity Tariffs, from the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas A.C. Tomas pursued this degree from 2014 to 2018. Prior to that, they completed their MSc. degree in Public Policy and Human Development at Maastricht University, from 2010 to 2011. Their undergraduate education includes a Diplom in Economics from the University of Buenos Aires, which they earned from 2004 to 2009. During the same period, they also attended Centro de Capacitación Profesional Berufsbildungszentrum Buenos Aires, where they obtained a Techn. degree in International Trade. Tomas completed their secondary education at Goethe Schule from 1992 to 2003, where they acquired their German-Argentinean High School degree with a focus on Science.
