Liz Demarest has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Liz started their career in 1989 as a Job Placement Specialist at the Jewish Vocational Service Refugee Unit, where they provided vocational counseling to clients and conducted job search seminars. In 1991, they worked as a Human Resources Manager at Vienna Beef, responsible for administering HR policies for 450 union employees.
In 1996, Liz joined the Peace Corps as a Volunteer, teaching English and working in the publications department of the Vilna Gaon Museum. Liz later transitioned into recruitment and public affairs roles at the Peace Corps Headquarters from 1999 to 2004, where they wrote recruitment plans, coordinated with regional staff, and led a team of recruiters.
From 2004 to 2005, Liz served as the Publications Manager at MOST | USAID Micronutrient Program, where they designed and disseminated health promotion materials and oversaw a website overhaul. Liz then joined the International Committee of the Red Cross as a Communications Officer from 2006 to 2007, raising awareness of the organization's humanitarian work and promoting understanding of international law.
Liz's most recent role was as the Vice President of Communications at the American Near East Refugee Aid (Anera) from 2007 onwards. In this position, they developed comprehensive communications strategies, oversaw various communication activities, supervised a team of staff, and marketed Anera's brand to internal and external audiences.
Liz Demarest attended Lawrence University from 1984 to 1986, studying Russian. After that, they enrolled at Oberlin College from 1987 to 1988, where they pursued a Bachelor's degree in Soviet Studies.
