Mario Torrence

Mario Torrence currently serves as the Intermediate and Middle School Principal at American Renaissance School since May 2023. As the Founder and Director of Umoja Community Partners since August 2003, Mario has extensive experience in educational leadership. Previous roles include Dean of Students and Academic Facilitator at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools from August 2018 to June 2023, and Program Facilitator at Digi-Bridge during the same period. In addition, Mario co-founded and directed Unity Athletics from January 2001 to August 2019, and served as Middle Grades Academy Coordinator at Invest Collegiate Charter School from August 2015 to July 2018. Mario has also been a Math Teacher at Sugar Creek Charter School from July 2012 to June 2015, and a Math Facilitator/Lead Teacher at Success Institute Charter School from September 2005 to June 2012. Educational qualifications include a Master of Arts in Secondary School Administration/Principalship from Gardner-Webb University, a Master's degree in Education and Teaching from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the same institution.
