Megan Mitzelfelt

Senior Director, Innovation And Strategic Initiatives at American Society of Human Genetics

Megan Mitzelfelt, PhD, CFRE has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and organizations. Megan began their career as an Undergraduate Student Researcher at the University of Florida from 2004 to 2006. Megan then moved on to the University of Florida College of Medicine, where they worked as a Predoctoral Fellow from 2006 to 2011. At Emory University, they served as an Adjunct Biology Instructor for a brief period in 2014.

Following their time in academia, Megan gained experience in the field of fundraising and development. Megan worked as a Freelance Medical Writer from 2013 to 2016 before joining the American Physiological Society as a Development Specialist from 2014 to 2017. During their tenure at the American Physiological Society, they progressed to the role of Development Manager, where they successfully oversaw development operations and significantly increased the annual fund and corporate/foundation support.

Megan also served as a Fundraising Consultant and Grant Writer as a Consultant in 2017. In 2018, they joined the American Society of Human Genetics, where they have held various positions. Megan started as a Senior Manager of Development before becoming a Senior Manager of Organizational Advancement. Megan then assumed the role of Associate Director of Organizational Advancement before transitioning to the role of Director of Finance, IT, and Advancement. Currently, they are serving as the Senior Director of Innovation and Strategic Initiatives, where they lead a team in integrating advancement, information technology, and finance and accounting strategies to support the Society's mission and strategic priorities.

Megan Mitzelfelt, PhD, CFRE, obtained a Ph.D. in Medical Science - Physiology and Pharmacology from the University of Florida College of Medicine from 2006 to 2011. Prior to that, they completed their undergraduate studies at the University of Florida, earning a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies - Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from 2003 to 2006. Megan also holds additional certifications in Distributed Computing with Spark SQL, Data Wrangling, Analysis and AB Testing with SQL, SQL for Data Science, and CFRE Certification from Coursera and CFRE International.
