Kevin Tuerff has extensive experience in various leadership roles related to environmental sustainability and communications. Kevin is currently the Managing Director at the American Thoracic Society, leading the marketing and communications team. Prior to this, Tuerff served as the Senior Director of Communications for Healthy Communities at the Environmental Defense Fund, where they managed staff and contractors globally and implemented strategic communications campaigns. Kevin was also the CEO of Kevin Tuerff Consulting, LLC dba Brokering Goodness, providing consulting services and strategic guidance on ESG, communications, marketing, and fundraising matters.
Before starting their own consulting firm, Tuerff was the CEO and co-founder of Green Canary Sustainability Consulting, Inc., where they provided expertise on environmental sustainability and drove stakeholder engagement. Kevin also co-founded EnviroMedia Inc., where they launched consumer brands, developed education campaigns, and oversaw daily operations.
Earlier in their career, Tuerff held roles at the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, serving as the Manager of Pollution Prevention & Recycling, and at the Texas Senate, where they worked as a Press Secretary and Legislative Aide. Kevin also served as the Public Affairs Director at the American Lung Association and as the Public Relations Director at the Texas Exes. Overall, Tuerff's work experience spans over 30 years and includes a wide range of leadership roles in environmental sustainability, communications, and advocacy.
Kevin Tuerff holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Communications from The University of Texas at Austin. Kevin has also obtained additional certifications, including Diversity Equity & Inclusion from UNSILOED in 2023, eSpeakers Certified Virtual Presenter from eSpeakers in April 2021, and Model-Netics® Management Training Instructor from Main Event Management Corporation in 2012.
