Nate DeBaun

Nate DeBaun is associate general counsel and corporate secretary for American Transmission Co. DeBaun is responsible for corporate and commercial legal matters on behalf of the company. As corporate secretary, he works with the general counsel and executive team in corporate governance matters, including preparing for and carrying out ATC’s board of directors, board committee, and shareholder meetings. He also provides legal advice and support to ATC’s board of directors.

DeBaun joined ATC’s legal department in 2011 and was promoted to lead counsel, corporate affairs and assistant corporate secretary in 2014, and to corporate secretary in 2020. DeBaun acted as ATC’s lead internal corporate counsel on the company’s corporate restructuring from 2016 to 2018.

Prior to joining ATC, DeBaun spent three years at Chicago law firm Ungaretti & Harris, LLP, focusing on corporate and securities law, finance and intellectual property, and three years at The Schroeder Group, S.C. in Waukesha, Wis., where he counseled small and closely held businesses in matters of corporate law, intellectual property and litigation.

DeBaun earned a bachelor’s degree in behavioral science and law, psychology and French from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a Juris Doctor from Rutgers Law School, and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Kansas, with a certificate in management and leadership. He is licensed to practice law in Wisconsin and Illinois.
