Fernando Tomasel

VP, Engineering at Ampt

Dr. Fernando Tomasel is the Vice President of Engineering for Ampt. Dr. Tomasel has more than 20 years of professional experience in technology and engineering, particularly in the area of industrial power electronics. He leads the Engineering and Product Design Group, including hardware, software, and data analytics.

Prior to joining Ampt, Fernando was Vice President of Engineering for Petra Systems, a solutions provider in the area of renewable energy and data services infrastructure for smart city deployments. Before working for Petra, Fernando spent 14 years working for Advanced Energy, where he made important contributions to the development of high-performance RF power delivery systems for semiconductor plasma processing, both as an individual contributor and project/division leader. His work comprises contributions to the development of semiconductor-processing remote plasma sources with unmatched uptime and technical performance. Fernando also developed and implemented advanced model-based tuning algorithms that enable optimum power delivery to plasma chambers. As a project leader, he headed the development of the modular architecture and the engineering development programs of some of the industry-leading RF power generators used in semiconductor plasma processing today. Fernando was also Director of Engineering for XUV Lasers, where he developed gigawatt-class solid state pulsed power drivers for soft X-ray lasers.

Fernando holds a Ph.D. and a M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Colorado State University, and a M.Sc. in Physics from University of Mar del Plata in Argentina. He holds 15 patents and is coauthor of numerous peer-reviewed papers in several areas including soft X-ray lasers, plasmas, optical sensors, neural networks, and biology. He has also been Adjunct Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Colorado State University since 2006, and he is a member of its Industrial Advisory Board. Fernando teaches regularly at both graduate and undergraduate level, and he is member of advisory committees for graduate students.
