Derek Mortensen has over eight years of work experience in various roles. Derek started their career in 2012 as a Commercial Photographer and CEO at Electric Umbrella Images Inc. In this role, they managed the company's operations and worked as a photographer.
In 2017, Derek joined SED Systems, a division of Calian Ltd., as a Systems Designer (E.I.T) - Junior. Derek was part of the SiriusXM project team and worked on system integration and testing for upgrades to the XM Uplink Authorization System. Derek later progressed to the position of Systems Designer (E.I.T) - Intermediate, where they contributed to proposals, managed day-to-day work of systems engineers/designers, and wrote a proposal for a repeater network monitoring system.
In 2020, Derek joined Andgo Systems as a Project Manager, Team Lead Platform and Site Reliability. In this role, they led a team of software developers and engineers, worked on projects, and managed relationships with third-party vendors. Later, they were promoted to the role of Engineering Manager, where they provided leadership for the Engineering Department.
Currently, Derek is serving as the Director of Engineering at Andgo Systems. Derek is responsible for building and maintaining an effective Engineering Department, defining team structures, implementing the software development lifecycle, and ensuring compliance with government regulations. Additionally, Derek fosters the engineering culture at Andgo and connects the company with other organizations in the software development community.
Derek Mortensen completed their education in the field of Electrical Engineering. From 2003 to 2008, they attended the University of Saskatchewan and obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Electrical Engineering. Derek then pursued further studies and from 2008 to 2012, they obtained a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan as well. In addition to their formal education, Derek Mortensen has also obtained several certifications. In December 2019, they completed the certification course "18.6501x: Fundamentals of Statistics" from MITx on edX. Subsequently, in June 2020, they obtained the certification for "6.86x: Machine Learning with Python-From Linear Models to Deep Learning" also from MITx on edX. Later, in September 2020, they completed the certification course "14.310Fx: Data Analysis in Social Science" and "6.431x: Probability - The Science of Uncertainty and Data" from MITx on edX.
