Jai Ramaswamy has a diverse and extensive work experience in the legal and regulatory field. Jai is currently serving as the Chief Legal Officer at Andreessen Horowitz, a prominent venture capital firm. Prior to this, they held the position of Chief Regulatory Officer, Web3/Crypto at the same company. In addition to their role at Andreessen Horowitz, Ramaswamy is a Board Member of the Celo Foundation since 2021.

Before joining Andreessen Horowitz and Celo, Ramaswamy worked at cLabs as the Chief Risk & Compliance Officer. Jai was responsible for advising and problem-solving on complex regulatory and compliance risk issues related to the Celo blockchain protocol.

Ramaswamy has also held senior positions in established financial institutions such as Capital One and Bank of America. At Capital One, they served as the Managing Vice President and Head of Enterprise Risk Management. At Bank of America, Ramaswamy held the position of Managing Director and Global Head of AML Compliance Risk Management.

Earlier in their career, Ramaswamy served in various roles within the U.S. Department of Justice, Criminal Division. Jai was the Chief of the Asset Forfeiture & Money Laundering Section, overseeing nationwide enforcement of financial crime violations. Jai also held the position of Principal Deputy Chief of the same section, serving as the chief operating officer with responsibilities for personnel and budget matters. Additionally, they worked as a Trial Attorney in the Computer Crime & Intellectual Property Section, investigating and prosecuting transnational cybersecurity matters.

Before joining the U.S. Department of Justice, Ramaswamy served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York, prosecuting federal criminal violations involving white-collar fraud and cybercrime.

Ramaswamy started their career as a Judicial Law Clerk for Hon. Dennis Jacobs in the U.S. Court of Appeals, 2nd Circuit. Jai also worked as a Litigation Associate at Covington & Burling LLP. Furthermore, they served as a Judicial Law Clerk for Hon. Gerard E. Lynch in the U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York.

In summary, Jai Ramaswamy has extensive experience in the legal and regulatory field, holding senior positions in both the public and private sectors.

Jai Ramaswamy attended Belmont Hill School from 1979 to 1985. Jai then went on to pursue an A.B. degree in Government & Economics from Harvard University, graduating with cum laude honors in 1989. Following this, Jai enrolled at the University of Cambridge from 1989 to 1995, where they earned a Ph.D. in Social and Political Sciences. In 1996, they joined the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School and completed their J.D. degree with cum laude distinction in 1999.
