Dato’ Lim Hong Thye joined the Company in August 2000. He was immediately seconded to the main associate of the Company, Malayawata Steel Berhad (“MYS”) as Head of Finance. He was appointed to the Board of the Company on 1 January 2003 and to the Board of MYS on 15 January 2004. He was appointed as the President of MYS and was instrumented in leading the merger exercise of the Company and MYS, thus setting the foundation of transforming the Company into the leading steel company in Malaysia. He was appointed as the Group Managing Director of the Company on 30 June 2008 and under his leadership, Ann Joo Resources Berhad Group embarked its Vision 2020 to transform itself into a leading steel group in South East Asia. MYS became a 100%-owned subsidiary of the Company and name changed to Ann Joo Steel Berhad (“AJSB”). The Company also started the first modern Blast Furnace in Malaysia via a Special Purpose Vehicle, Ann Joo Integrated Steel Sdn Bhd. These series of initiatives have transformed AJSB into the lowest cost steel producer in Malaysia and the Company as the largest steel company by market capitalisation in Malaysia.
