Donald Macaskill has a diverse work experience, starting in 2011 as a Scientific Aid at the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. From 2012 to 2015, they worked as a Research Diver at both Caselle Lab and Love Lab in the UC Santa Barbara Marine Science Institute. In 2016, they interned as an Operations Intern at Goleta Water District.
In 2017, Macaskill joined the County of Santa Barbara as a Hazardous Materials Specialist, where they performed inspections, investigations, and data analysis to assess regulatory compliance, among other responsibilities.
In 2018, Macaskill moved on to Blue Tomorrow, LLC, working as an Environmental Scientist until 2019.
Since 2019, Macaskill has been working at Apeel Sciences. Donald started as an Environmental Compliance Specialist and later became the Manager of Environmental Health and Safety. In 2021, they were promoted to Director of Environmental Health and Safety. In this role, they oversee occupational health and safety considerations and environmental compliance at Apeel facilities and customer sites in multiple countries. Donald'sprimary goal is to ensure the organization's "permit to operate" while promoting a strong safety culture within the organization.
Donald Macaskill earned a Master's Degree in Environmental Science and Management from the Bren School of Environmental Science & Management at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Prior to that, they completed their undergraduate studies at UC Santa Barbara, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Aquatic Biology.
