Jorge Santiago-Ortiz, Ph.D. has a rich work experience that includes roles in academia and industry. In 2006, they began their career as an Undergraduate Student Researcher at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez. In 2008, they were a Chemical Engineering and Food Science Research and Development Intern at Kraft Foods Group. In 2009, they were an Undergraduate Student Researcher at CPE Lyon. In 2010, they were a Ph.D. Graduate Student Researcher at UC Berkeley. From 2016 to 2020, they worked at BioConsortia, Inc., where they held the roles of Director of Process Development, Scientist II, and Fermentation Scientist. Since 2020, they have been a Senior Director, CMC at Apertura Gene Therapy and a Sr Director, Process R&D and Director of Process Development at the New Jersey Innovation Institute.

Jorge Santiago-Ortiz earned their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley in 2016. Prior to that, they received their degree in Chemical Engineering with a concentration in Biotechnology from the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez in 2010.
