Hernando Carter has a diverse work experience that spans various healthcare roles and leadership positions. Hernando currently works as the Market Medical Director at ArchWell Health, where they collaborate with providers to deliver excellent primary care services and assists with community engagement and marketing. Hernando also provides primary care services to members. Prior to this role, they served as a Medical Consultant at Talladega College. Additionally, they have held positions as a Board Member at the Alabama Department of Public Health, ALABAMA STATE BOARD OF MEDICAL EXAMINERS, and the Medical Association of the State of Alabama. Before their current positions, they worked as an Attending Physician at Ball Healthcare, caring for patients in skilled nursing facilities, and as the Owner/President of AH Carter MD, LLC. Hernando also founded and served as CEO of Living and Learning Health Outreach Ministries. Earlier in their career, they held positions at Whitaker Clinic of UAB Hospital as the Lead Physician of Internal Medicine 2 and at UAB Medicine as an Assistant Professor of Medicine.
Hernando Carter earned their Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from the UAB Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine in 2006. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Biology, General from Morehouse College in 2001. Hernando completed their high school education at A. H. Parker High School, earning a High School Diploma in 1997. In terms of additional certifications, Hernando Carter became a Fellow of the American College of Physicians in 2019 and obtained certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine in 2010.
