Alia Hawkes

Executive Director, Head of Pharmacovigilance at Arcturus Therapeutics

Alia Hawkes has a diverse and extensive work experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Alia is currently working as the Executive Director and Head of Pharmacovigilance at Arcturus Therapeutics. Prior to this, they served as the Executive Director of US Quality Medicine at Boehringer Ingelheim, where they were responsible for ensuring patient safety and implementing a quality management system.

Before joining Boehringer Ingelheim, Hawkes had a long tenure at FibroGen, Inc. as an Executive Director. During their time there, they successfully established a Development Committee and implemented a new Data Access Plan to maintain data confidentiality. Alia also held the position of Associate Director of Drug Safety at FibroGen, where they managed drug safety operations and represented the company in safety data exchange agreements.

Hawkes has also worked at Onyx Pharmaceuticals, Inc., an Amgen subsidiary, as a Drug Safety Consultant and later as an Associate Director of Drug Safety & Pharmacovigilance. In these roles, they conducted quality control reviews on safety reports, developed safety management plans, and facilitated activities of Data Monitoring Committees.

In addition to their industry experience, Hawkes has teaching experience at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where they served as an Instructor at the School of Nursing. Alia taught graduate and undergraduate courses and participated in faculty committees.

Hawkes began their career at Genentech as a Clinical Safety Associate and later worked at Chiron Corporation as a Drug Safety Specialist. In these roles, they reviewed adverse event reports and participated in clinical development activities.

Alia Hawkes has a Bachelor's Degree in Social Welfare from the University of California, Berkeley, which was obtained from 1991 to 1996. Alia pursued a Master's degree in Nursing from the University of San Francisco from 1999 to 2001. Additionally, they have obtained certifications as a Registered Nurse and a Family Nurse Practitioner from the Hawaii Board of Nursing in June 2015.
