Sébastien Lemire

Director, Discovery And Engineering at Armata Pharmaceuticals

Sébastien Lemire has a strong background in bacteriophage research and antibiotic resistance. Sébastien started their career as a PhD student at the Centre de Génétique Moléculaire et Cellulaire, where they studied prophages and their role in bacterial pathogenicity. After completing their PhD, Lemire worked as a JSPS post-doctoral fellow at Osaka University, studying the molecular mechanisms behind the anti-T4 superinfection exclusion system RNAse LS. Sébastien then moved on to the Technical University of Denmark, where they worked as a post-doctoral researcher, focusing on identifying opportunities for infection-specific antimicrobial target identification in Salmonella.

Lemire later joined the Research Laboratory of Electronics at MIT as a visiting researcher, and eventually became a Research Scientist. Sébastien'swork at MIT involved engineering bacteriophages to endow them with pre-programmed host ranges for therapeutic applications.

Most recently, Lemire joined Armata Pharmaceuticals, Inc. as a Scientist, then Senior Scientist, and is currently serving as the Associate Director of Discovery. In this role, they are likely continuing their work on bacteriophages for therapeutic applications.

Sébastien Lemire has a strong background in education, particularly in the field of microbiology. Sébastien completed their Bachelor's degree in biology and physiology at Université de Rouen from 1997 to 1999. Following this, they pursued further studies and obtained a Magistère in enzymology and microbiology from Université Henri Poincaré, Nancy 1, where they studied from 1999 to 2002. Sébastien's educational journey culminated in a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in genetics and physiology of micro-organisms, which they earned from Orsay Paris XI between 2001 and 2006.
