Edward Chekan, MD, F.A.C.S. has a comprehensive work experience in the medical field. Edward also served as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Virginia Health System. Throughout their career, they have gained expertise in various surgical procedures, including laparoscopic and endoscopic methods, gastro/intestinal GI surgery, hernia repair, and diagnostic endoscopy.
Edward Chekan, MD, F.A.C.S. completed their education as follows:
- Edward obtained a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from Drexel University in 1992.
- Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biology from Penn State University in 1987.
- Edward completed their general surgical residency at Allegheny General Hospital, serving as a Chief Resident from 1994 to 1997.
- In 1993, they were a resident in General Surgery at East Carolina University, and from 1992 to 1993, they were also a resident at Allegheny General Hospital.
- As for fellowship training, they pursued a Research Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery at Duke University from 1997 to 1998, followed by a Clinical Fellowship in the same field at Duke University from 1998 to 1999.
In terms of certifications, Dr. Chekan has received the following:
- In 1998, they passed the American Board of Surgery - Qualifying Exam and obtained certification.
- Edward became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 2000.
- Edward passed the American Board of Surgery - Certifying Exam in 1998.
- Dr. Chekan recertified through the American Board of Surgery in 2008 and 2020.
- Edward also achieved the National Board of Medical Examiners Part 1 in 1990, Part 2 in 1991, and Part 3 in 1993.
- Additionally, they hold a medical license from the State of New Hampshire.
