Gilles Demptos has a diverse background with extensive experience in various roles. Gilles currently serves as the Director of Asia Pacific at the Asian American Journalists Association, where they focus on advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in newsrooms, supporting journalism excellence, advocating for press freedom, and more. Prior to this, Demptos worked as the Public Policy and Government Relations Senior Manager at Google, where they coordinated regional public policy campaigns and formed alliances within the telco, media, and news publishing industries in the APAC region. Gilles also held multiple positions at WAN-IFRA, including Director of Asia, Director of Events & Publications, and Business Development Director, where they contributed to the organization's global strategy, developed projects and services for the Asian news media industry, and facilitated partnerships with publishers, tech companies, government agencies, and NGOs. Before joining WAN-IFRA, Demptos worked at the European Commission and the Embassy of France in Malaysia, where they gained experience in press services and events organization. Additionally, they had a summer internship at Rutherford Hill Winery, where they worked in the wine cellar.
Gilles Demptos began their education in 1990 at the Université de Bordeaux, where they pursued a degree in Law. Gilles completed their undergraduate studies in Law at this institution in 1993. Following this, in 1993-1994, Gilles attended the University of Kent, where they studied French-English law and obtained a Bachelor's degree.
