Timothy Smith

Timothy Smith has extensive work experience in the field of intellectual property law. Timothy is currently serving as the Vice President of Intellectual Property at Aspen Neuroscience, Inc., a position they have held since April 2022. Prior to this, they worked as the Principal at the Law Office of Timothy L Smith, JD, PhD from September 2019 to April 2022.

Before starting their own practice, Timothy held various senior roles in the legal departments of several companies. Timothy served as the Executive Vice President and General Counsel at Celularity, Inc. from September 2017 to September 2019. Prior to that, they were the Deputy General Counsel and Head of Intellectual Property at Human Longevity, Inc. from May 2014 to August 2017, where they were responsible for managing all legal and regulatory matters.

Timothy also has experience in the biotechnology industry, having worked at the Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation (GNF) as the General Counsel and Vice President of Legal from May 2003 to May 2014. Before that, they held the position of Director of Intellectual Property at GNF from May 2001 to May 2003. Timothy started their career as a Patent Agent at Genencor, A Danisco Division in 1989 and later worked as an Associate Attorney at Townsend and Townsend and Crew LLP.

Throughout their career, Timothy has demonstrated their expertise in intellectual property law, including patent prosecution, trademark analysis, and legal counsel. Timothy has also managed legal teams, developed strategies for intellectual property protection, and maintained relationships with external counsel.

Timothy Smith has a diverse education history, with expertise in law, chemistry, and cellular and molecular biology. Timothy holds a Doctor of Law (J.D.) degree from the University of California, College of the Law, San Francisco (formerly UC Hastings). Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Chemistry from the University of Minnesota Duluth. Timothy further pursued their education by earning a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

In addition to their academic achievements, Timothy Smith has also obtained certifications in aviation and law. Timothy is a Commercial Instrument Pilot certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) since August 2014. Furthermore, they hold the title of Patent Attorney, accredited by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
