James Done has more than 30 years of work experience in various scientific and data-related roles. James is currently working as a Lead Data Scientist at Aspira Women's Health, where they apply artificial neural networks and machine learning algorithms to examine the feasibility of miRNA as a cancer diagnostic.
Before that, James worked at Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) as a Sr. Bioinformatics Scientist for over five years. In this role, they processed Next Generation Sequencing Data, developed various bioinformatics applications using languages like Perl, Julia, R, Ruby, and Python, and deployed RESTful APIs for SQLite databases.
Prior to CHLA, James worked at Caltech as a Scientific Software Developer for four years. In this role, they collaborated with City of Hope to create text mining websites for cancer research and OMIM, developed various bioinformatics tools and scripts, and contributed to annotation software for the Genetic Society of America publication pipeline.
Beginning their career, James worked as a Sr. Physicist at Northrop Grumman Corporation for nine years and at Raytheon for three years in similar roles.
In their earlier days, James gained valuable experience as a Student Intern at Argonne National Laboratory in two separate years.
Overall, James Done has a strong background in bioinformatics, scientific software development, and physics. James has extensive experience in data analysis, algorithm development, and software implementation in various scientific and medical research settings.
James Done received their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Physics from Texas A&M University from 1991 to 1999. Prior to that, they obtained a Master's degree in Engineering Applied Science from the University of California, Davis, from 1988 to 1990. James'sundergraduate studies were at Roosevelt University, where they earned a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from 1985 to 1988. In addition to their academic degrees, James Done also obtained the certification of Fundamentals of Engineering/Engineering In Training from NCEES in January 2003.
