Ramon Cestero MD MBA

Ramon Cestero MD MBA has extensive experience in the medical field, with a career spanning from 2003 to present. Ramon began their career in 2003 as a Lieutenant Commander in the US Navy Medical Corps, where they worked as a Trauma Surgeon and Department Head of Combat Casualty Care Research. In 2011, they became an Adjunct Associate Professor of Surgery and Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. In 2013, they joined UT Health San Antonio as a Professor of Surgery, Trauma Surgeon, General Surgeon, Surgical Critical Care, Director of the Executive Development Program for Emerging Health Leaders, Director of the Executive MBA for Health Professionals, Chair of the Faculty Senate, Program Director of the Trauma Surgery Fellowship, Program Director of the Surgical Critical Care Fellowship, and Assistant Professor of Surgery. In 2014, they became Medical Director of the Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit at University Health System. In 2017, they were appointed as Vice Chair of the American College of Surgeons South Texas Committee on Trauma. In 2018, they were appointed Co-Chair of the UT System Faculty Advisory Council Health Affairs Committee. In 2019, they co-founded ASR Systems, Inc. and assumed the roles of Chief Medical Officer and Director. In 2020, they joined the United States Air Force as a Senior Instructor/SME for US Air Force Ground Surgical Teams.

Ramon Cestero MD MBA began their education in 1987 when they obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from UC San Diego. Ramon then attended the University of California, San Diego - School of Medicine, where they obtained their Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) in 1996. After completing their Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), they undertook a General Surgery Residency at the University of California, San Francisco - East Bay, which they completed in 2003. From 1999 to 2001, they completed a Research Fellowship at Scripps Research. In 2008 and 2009, they completed a Trauma Surgery Fellowship and Surgical Critical Care Fellowship, respectively, at the University of Southern California. In 2016, they obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, with a focus in Finance. Additionally, they have obtained certifications from the American College of Critical Care Medicine, American Board of Surgery, PADI, and American College of Surgeons.
