Director, Metadata And Data Sciences at The Associated Press

Heather Edwards has had a diverse range of work experience. Heather began their career as a Graduate Assistant at Pratt Institute in 2005, and also interned at ABC News in the same year. In 2005, they joined Inform Technologies as a Taxonomy Research Analyst. Heather then moved on to The Associated Press in 2008, where they held several roles, including Taxonomy Developer and Manager of Metadata Capabilities. Heather'sresponsibilities included leading the development of new metadata workflows and products, managing the AP Metadata Services platform, and designing and implementing the company's internal digital archive and content analysis platform. In 2015, they were promoted to Director of Distribution Platforms at The Associated Press. Heather also became involved in the International Press Telecommunications Council (IPTC) in 2013, serving as an AP delegate and later becoming a Director and AP delegate. Heather'smost recent role, as of October 2019, is Director of Metadata and Data Sciences at The Associated Press.

Heather Edwards holds a Master of Science in Library and Information Science (MS-LIS) obtained from Pratt Institute, where they studied Information Science from 2003 to 2005. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor's degree in Theater and Math at Tufts University from 1997 to 2001. Heather Edwards also has an upcoming certification, the Executive Data Science Specialization, from The Johns Hopkins University, to be obtained in 2023.
