Maurice Smith

Maurice brings more than 15 years of accounting and financial operations experience. He most recently served as controller of ElevateBio, where he led the accounting operations for their portfolio companies. Prior to that, he worked at Akebia Therapeutics, where he directed a team focused on financial management in Research, Clinical Operations, and CMC. While in this role, he saw the company through their merger with Keryx Biopharmaceuticals where he continued to oversee R&D Finance. Prior to joining Akebia, Maurice led R&D Accounting and Clinical Financial Planning teams at Biogen. Maurice also held positions of increasing responsibility at the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) where he led inspections for one of the largest public accounting firms. He previously served as Audit Assurance Manager for Deloitte’s Tech Venture Center. Maurice holds a B.A. in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from Morehouse College and is a Certified Public Accountant in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
