Following this, from 1989 to 1992, they attended the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, where they obtained a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree, specializing in Medicine. Valerie further pursued their medical education at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, completing the Internal Medicine Residency Program from 1992 to 1995. Lastly, they attended the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health from 2012 to 2015, earning a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree with a focus on Implementation Science and Program Development.
