Assistant Head (safeguarding) Ey- Yr 12 And Accreditation Evaluator For CIS at Australian International School

Garth’s educational journey began at Heywood Consolidated School in 2001 as a Year 6 teacher. He then spent three years teaching in Sittingbourne and London in the UK. In 2005 he joined Heany Park Primary School in Rowville, Victoria. During this time, Garth completed a Masters in Education (Leadership and Administration) from Deakin University. He joined the Australian International School, Singapore, in April 2008 as a Year 2 teacher.

Since arriving at AIS, Garth has held many positions within the school. As well as teaching Years 2, 4 and 5 in the Elementary School, where he led the PYP Exhibition, he has taught Mathematics, English and Humanities in Year 6, and more recently, Humanities in Years 7 and 8. His leadership journey at AIS began as the Community and Service Coordinator from 2009 – 2011, before becoming the Head of Year 5 in 2012. Leadership roles in Years 6, 7 and now 8 followed after that. Garth has led the Schools for Schools project since 2017. He is also a Council of Internationals accreditation evaluator.

In 2018 Garth was appointed as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead for the Secondary School. He has made an extremely valuable contribution in helping the DSL committee grow to meet the evolving demands of safeguarding in an international environment. In late 2021 he was made the whole school DSL. In this brief period, Garth had led AIS through the Cognita safeguarding audit and overseen the rollout of the Child Protection Online Management System (CPOMS) . In 2023, AIS will implement the ‘Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum’ program, completing a safeguarding scope and sequence from early years through to Year 12.
