Michelle Grech

Manager Vessel Operations at Australian Maritime Safety Authority

Michelle Grech is an experienced maritime safety professional currently serving as the Manager of Vessel Operations at the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) since August 2012. In this role, Michelle oversees safety management system implementation, manning determinations, incident reporting, and strategic safety advisement aimed at promoting safe vessel operations within Australian waters. Previously, Michelle held the position of Section Head - Human Factors at AMSA, focusing on integrating human factors best practices and leading research initiatives. Prior experience includes serving as a Maritime Human Factors Scientist at the Defence Science and Technology Organisation, where Michelle managed research on human factors and crew training for the Royal Australian Navy. Michelle holds a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Malta, a Master of Science in Marine Engineering from Newcastle University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Human Factors from The University of Queensland.
