Alexa Kurzius Mathes possesses extensive experience in editorial roles and freelance writing. Since July 2019, Alexa has served as Executive Editor of Science & Multimedia at Newsela, managing a diverse editorial team and launching key content verticals for grades 3-12. Prior to this, Alexa worked as a Senior Editor for Scholastic, producing original articles and videos, and as a freelance science writer for notable outlets such as Wired and The New York Times. Additional experience includes copywriting for JUICE Pharma Worldwide, book research for Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Michael Moss, and a background in broadcast production as an intern with Ark Media. Alexa holds a Master of Arts in Science, Health, and Environmental Reporting from New York University and a Bachelor of Arts in English and Psychology from The Johns Hopkins University.
