Kay Damen is an accomplished engineering manager with extensive experience in biorefinery processes and CO2 capture technologies. Currently leading a team of process engineers at Avantium since March 2018, Kay is focused on scaling up Ray Technology for converting sugars to glycols from pilot to commercial scale. Previous roles include process engineer at Avantium, research scientist at ECN, and process engineer and CO2 capture R&D manager at Vattenfall, where Kay contributed to various high-impact projects such as biomass co-firing and CO2 capture pilot plants. In earlier roles at Nuon, Kay managed gasification and CCS projects, conducting feasibility studies and developing R&D programs. Kay holds a PhD and an MSc in Chemistry from Utrecht University.
