Laurie Kirkland M.Ed. has a diverse background in education and coaching. Laurie began their career as a Math and Science Teacher and Volleyball Coach in the Kent School District from 1989 to 2002. Laurie then transitioned to roles such as Instructional Technology Specialist, STEM Program Specialist, and Technology Integration Program Specialist, where they provided training and support to teachers on using instructional tools and programs to enhance student engagement and learning. In 2017, Laurie joined AVID Center as a Senior Learning Designer, responsible for developing and implementing professional learning content for digital teaching and learning initiatives. Laurie later became the Director and Head of Digital Learning. Alongside their education career, Laurie also has significant experience as a volleyball coach, both at the high school level and with club teams. Additionally, they worked as a Receptionist and Salesperson at Bob Boyer Photography from 1983 to 1988.
Laurie Kirkland M.Ed. obtained their Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree from the University of Washington, where they also completed two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Math and Science with an emphasis on Atmospheric Science. Laurie attended the University of Washington from 1984 to 1993.
In addition to their formal education, Laurie has obtained several certifications in various fields. Laurie became a Common Sense Education Community Partner through the AVID Center in December 2020. In 2018, they completed the AVID Staff Developer Training, and in 2017, they attended the National Conference DTL 2017, both through the AVID Center.
