Jan Bakker began their work experience as a software engineer intern at Tower Technology in 1997, where they worked on creating a test framework for their native Java compiler. Jan also modified the Abstract Syntax Tree of the Tower Eiffel compiler to accommodate both Eiffel and Java programming languages.

In 1997, Jan also worked as a software engineer at Aduna, where they built a prototype for automatic management of unstructured information and developed a visual tool for building rules to recognize content.

In 1998, they worked as a consultant at Profit Consulting, specifically on a project for HITT as a software engineer.

The following year, Jan joined ELC Object Technologie as a software engineer and later switched to Ordina in 2000 as a technology consultant. At Ordina, they completed a project at Randstad and provided Java training to new employees. Jan also advised the business unit manager on dividing the unit into junior and senior consultants.

Since 2000, Jan has been the Founder and Owner of Avisi, where they are mainly responsible for sales, marketing, project management, contracting, hiring new employees, sub-contractors, and strategic IT consultancy with customers. Jan also defines the mission, vision, and core values of the company and implements them in its processes and employees.

In 2013, Jan became the Director of MoreApp, a tool for digitizing paper forms, providing access to any form at any location. Their tenure at MoreApp lasted until June 2022.

Jan Bakker attended CSG Emmeloord from 1986 to 1992, where they completed their VWO degree with a focus on Dutch, English, math, physics, chemistry, and history. From 1992 to 1994, they pursued computer software engineering at Jobs in Netherlands but did not obtain a degree. Finally, they attended Saxion University of Applied Sciences from 1994 to 1998, where they obtained a degree in HIO (ingenieur).
