Florian Zaruba

Principal Engineer - Computing Architecture at Axelera AI

Florian Zaruba has worked in a variety of roles in the technology industry. In 2021, they began working as a CPU SoC Engineer at Axelera AI. In 2020, they became the Director of Engineering, HW & SW Task Groups at OpenHW Group. Florian was responsible for working closely and technically consulting member companies towards a unified vision, both from the HW (SoC definition, simulation, and verification) and the SW (compiler, HAL, SDK) side. From 2016 to 2020, they worked at ETH Zürich as a Postdoctoral Researcher, PhD Student, and Student Assistent. During this time, they led the Occamy Project, an AI-focused realization of the Manticore many-core chiplet system, and designed, manufactured, and tested 9 ASICs in 22nm and 65nm technology nodes. In 2018, they worked as a Hardware Engineer Intern at Google.

Florian Zaruba began their educational journey in 2011 when they enrolled at Technische Universität Wien to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering. Florian completed this degree in 2015 and then went on to pursue a Master of Science in Elektrotechnik, Eletronik und Kommunikationstechnik at ETH Zürich, which they completed in 2017. Following this, Florian Zaruba continued their studies at ETH Zürich and obtained a Doctor of Science in Integrated Circuit Design in 2021. Additionally, Florian Zaruba obtained a PPL (A) certification from the Federal Office of Civil Aviation Switzerland in June 2022.
