Hans Graf is an associate principal with more than 25 years of experience in all aspects of architecture from conceptual design through construction documents and administration. He has dedicated his career to the design of student life buildings, with a particular focus on residence halls that elevate the living-learning experience. Hans takes an inside-out approach to projects by working closely with residence life departments, facilities offices, and other campus stakeholders to find out programming needs and then translate them into built forms. He strives to incorporate a variety of spaces into his projects, allowing students to rest, study, and build community more easily.
Hans thinks of each project as a puzzle with a lot of unique moving parts and priorities that must be brought together. He enjoys finding surprising solutions for problems and feels satisfaction in knowing his projects that will play a significant role in the personal development of students. Recent higher education projects include residence halls at Ringling College of Art and Design, Towson University West Village Housing, the Emory University Freshman Housing Village and Campus Bookstore, and the Clemson University Douthit Hills Housing and HUB Bookstore, Dining, and Student Center.
