Derek Schoonmaker

Derek Schoonmaker is an experienced legal professional currently serving as Of Counsel at Barnard Iglitzin & Lavitt LLP since February 2023. Prior to this role, Derek held various positions at Centro Legal de la Raza, including Workers' Rights Directing Attorney and Employment Program Supervising Attorney, from December 2012 to January 2022. Derek's earlier experience includes serving as a Voter Protection Attorney for Obama for America, a Law Clerk at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and a Lawyer at the Social Justice Law Project. Derek began the legal career as a Legal Fellow at Human Rights First in 2009. Derek holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Berkeley - School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and International Development Studies from McGill University.
