Aquilcia Joaquim has extensive work experience in various roles and organizations. Aquilcia began their career as an Administrative Assistant and Project Assistant at COWI Moçambique/Projecto MASC, where they managed project administration and supported the finance department. Aquilcia then worked as a Capacity Development Officer, supporting civil society organizations (CSOs) in Maputo, Gaza, and Inhambane in developing projects on governance monitoring and advocacy.

Joaquim later joined PROCESS Consultoria e Formação as a Senior Managing Consultant, where they led internal and external consultants and assisted private sector organizations in developing competencies in leadership, business management, and communication skills. Aquilcia also engaged in technical dialogues with the government to improve the business environment for economic and sustainable development.

In 2018, Joaquim became a Program Manager at Votar Moçambique, overseeing a program that aimed to engage women, youth, and disabled people in electoral processes and mitigate electoral violence. Aquilcia was responsible for program strategy, performance, and representation with key donors and the Mozambican consortium.

Joaquim's experience at Fundação MASC includes roles as a Capacity Development Coordinator, where they supported the creation and strengthening of over 200 national CSOs and managed projects and funds of over $5 million USD in small grants. Aquilcia also served as a Project Manager for the Alternatives Narratives Program, implementing prevention and countering violent extremism initiatives funded by the European Union and USAID.

Before joining Be Girl as a Country Director in 2022, Joaquim worked at DAI Global LLC, USAID/OTI Mozambique Community Resilience Program. Aquilcia'sroles included Program Development Manager, where they advised on the evolving local political, economic, and social situation in Mozambique to identify threats to US foreign policy interests and stability in the region. Aquilcia programmed almost $2 million USD in small grants programs in Cabo Delgado province. Aquilcia also served as a Grants Manager, overseeing all grantees management and managing more than 15 activities with an average of $60 thousand USD in grants.

Joaquim's early work experience includes their role as Field Supervisor and Inquiry at the University of Oxford - Centre for the Study of African Economies. Aquilcia participated in a research study on the quality of democracy in Mozambique, collecting citizens' perceptions of democracy through door-to-door interviews in Maputo province in 2009.

Overall, Joaquim has a strong background in program management, capacity development, governance monitoring, and advocacy, with a focus on preventing and countering violent extremism and promoting democratic processes.

Aquilcia Joaquim completed their education at the Universidade Eduardo Mondlane. From 2005 to 2009, they pursued a degree in Statistics. Later, from 2015 to 2016, they completed a Postgraduate degree in Governance and Public Administration. In addition to their formal education, Aquilcia also obtained several certifications, including "Formação de Formadores Lusófonos relativo a Mecanismos Africanos de Direitos Humanos" from The African Center for Democracy and Human Rights Studies in October 2019, "Treinamento - Paz, Reconciliação e Desenvolvimento Sustentável em Moçambique" from the School of International Futures (SOIF) in May 2019, and "Formação em Consultoria de Gestão" from PROCESS Consultoria e Formação in November 2016.
