William Clendaniel has a strong background in leadership and management roles in various organizations, primarily in the field of historical preservation and public gardens. William served as Vice President & Treasurer at Beacon Hill Village from 2023 to the present. Prior to that, they held positions at The Trustees of Reservations, Friends of the Public Garden, Massachusetts Historical Society, Friends of the Public Garden in Boston, Historic Cemeteries Alliance, Mount Auburn Cemetery, and The Trustees of Reservations. Some of their notable roles include President at Mount Auburn Cemetery from 1988 to 2008 and Deputy Director at The Trustees of Reservations from 1979 to 1988. Clendaniel also served as a founding member and Chair of the Historic Cemeteries Alliance from 1995 to 2008.
William Clendaniel attended Williams College from 1963 to 1967, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. William then went on to study at Merton College, Oxford University from 1967 to 1969, receiving a Master of Arts degree in Philosophy, Politics & Economics. Finally, they attended Harvard Law School from 1972 to 1975, obtaining a Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
