Chris Schurman

Chris Schurman is the manager of Global Corporate Security. In this role, Chris leads the function in quantifying and mitigating security risks to enable Bechtel to keep its people safe, maximize business opportunities, and execute project delivery.

Chris Schurman joined Bechtel in June 2019 as the deputy manager of Global Corporate Security. He previously served for 32 years as a member of the senior foreign service and special agent with the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Diplomatic Security (DS), where he led DS in the dual role as principal deputy assistant secretary and director of the Diplomatic Security Service. In these roles was responsible for ensuring all State Department law enforcement and security programs supported key U.S. foreign policy objectives, as well as the protection of the Secretary of State and U.S. diplomatic personnel and facilities at all U.S. embassies and consulates in over 200 countries.

Chris served at the U.S. embassies in Israel, Cyprus, Tunisia, Ghana, and Thailand. He also held a variety of executive and operational positions in Washington, D.C., including as the deputy assistant secretary of DS for International Programs; the director of the Office of Overseas Protective Operations; executive assistant to the assistant secretary for DS, and chief of DS’s Criminal Investigations division. He also designed and led the defensive counterintelligence program for the reconstruction of the U.S. Embassy in Moscow while serving in the DS Counterintelligence division and was a member of Secretary of State James A. Baker’s protective detail.

Chris has a bachelor of science degree in finance from The Ohio State University and a master of science in national resource strategy from the National Defense University’s Industrial College of the Armed Forces (now the Eisenhower School).
