Scott Major

CIO & Director, Office of Information Technology at Berks County Intermediate Unit

Scott Major serves as the Chief Information Officer and Director of the Office of Information Technology (OIT) at the Berks County Intermediate Unit. The CIO is responsible for setting the strategic direction for IT services aligned with the strategies and business requirements of the broader intermediate unit roadmap, and in support of client district needs and initiatives. In addition to the traditional role of the CIO, the OIT also serves as a vehicle for the creation and launch of innovative and strategic services and programs.

Prior to assuming his leadership role at the BCIU in June 2018, Scott served our country as a Communications/Navigations System Technician in the United States Marine Corps and is a Desert Shield/Desert Storm veteran. Following his time in the Marine Corps, he worked as a Senior Systems Engineer at Herley Industries, Computer Services Coordinator at Lancaster Laboratories, Network Manager at Dickinson College, Director of Network Services at Elizabethtown College, Director of Technology at Lancaster County Career and Technology, and Director of Information Technology at Boyertown Area School District.

Scott holds an Associate of Science (AS) degree in Computer Engineering Technology from Irvine Valley College, a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Computer Science from Elizabethtown College, a Master of Science (MS) in Instructional Design and Technology from Philadelphia University, and is currently a doctoral candidate at Walden University completing his doctoral studies as a Doctor of Information Technology and Cybersecurity. In addition, he has attained several certifications in the field of Information Technology and cybersecurity including the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), and Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Control Objectives for Information and Related Technology (COBIT), and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL).
