Philip A. Jones

President and CEO, Northern Powergrid at Berkshire Hathaway Energy

Phil Jones, 51, is president and CEO of Northern Powergrid, headquartered in Newcastle, England. A chartered electrical engineer, he has worked with Northern Powergrid or its predecessor since 1993, when he joined after completing a research PhD.

The Northern Powergrid group of companies represents Berkshire Hathaway Energy’s activities in Europe and Australia. The majority of that activity is the running of the regulated electricity power networks that deliver power to 3.9 million homes and businesses in northern England, serving the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire. The group also includes Integrated Utility Services, an engineering contracting business, CalEnergy Resources, a small oil and gas exploration business and Northern Powergrid Metering, which provides meters to energy suppliers throughout the UK and Eire.

Jones serves on the board of companies throughout the Northern Powergrid group. He is actively involved in policy development at a national level in the UK, serving on advisory groups that advise the UK Government and the energy regulator, Ofgem, on the development of networks for low carbon economy, sustainable development and consumer protection. He is a past President of the Energy Networks Association, the Institute of Asset Management and the Chairman of the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Council of the Confederation of British Industry. In his local community in Yorkshire, Jones serves as a trustee of the 5 Towns Christian Fellowship Trust and of the Pontefract Academies Trust.
