Jessica Spears, PhD has extensive work experience in the field of research and development. Jessica began their career as a Graduate Research Assistant at The Ohio State University in 2005, where they conducted independent and collaborative research on tRNA deamination mechanisms and enzymes. During this time, they supervised undergraduate research assistants and taught protein handling and purification techniques to graduate students and post-docs.

Following their time at The Ohio State University, Dr. Spears worked as a Post-doctoral Research Associate at The RNA Institute from 2011 to 2012. Here, they contributed to multiple projects focused on the importance of modification in transfer RNA for drug discovery. Additionally, they maintained lab instrumentation and supervised an undergraduate student.

In 2013, Dr. Spears joined BIO-CAT Enzymes & Microbials as a Research Scientist. Jessica held this position until 2015, conducting research within the company. Jessica then advanced to the role of Senior Scientist and Quality Assurance Coordinator from 2016 to 2019, where they contributed to research projects and ensured adherence to quality standards. In 2020, Dr. Spears was promoted to the position of Director of Research and Development, a role they currently hold.

Throughout their career, Dr. Spears has demonstrated strong research skills, leadership abilities, and a dedication to advancing scientific knowledge and innovation.

Jessica Spears, PhD completed their education in the field of Microbiology and Biology. Jessica obtained their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in General Biology from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire between 2001 and 2005. Later, they pursued their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Microbiology, General from The Ohio State University from 2005 to 2011. In addition to their academic qualifications, they have also completed certifications, including "Management Skills for New Managers (Completion)" from the American Management Association and "PCQI Training" from the Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA).
