Dharanesh Gangaiah has extensive work experience in the field of microbiome research. Dharanesh currently holds the position of Senior Director and Lead Scientist at BiomEdit, a microbiome company that focuses on discovering and developing probiotics and engineered microbial medicines for animal health. Prior to this, they worked as a Principal Research Scientist in Microbiome Research at MBRD Service Company, LLC. This company was established to facilitate the carveout of Elanco's microbiome R&D platform. Dharanesh also had a significant tenure at Elanco, where they held various roles, including Principal Research Scientist and Senior Research Scientist in Discovery Bacteriology & Microbiome. Before joining the industry, Dharanesh worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Indiana University School of Medicine and as a Graduate Research Associate at The Ohio State University. Dharanesh began their career as a Junior Research Fellow at G. B. Pant University Of Agriculture & Technology and as a Veterinary Intern/Student at Karnataka Veterinary, Animal & Fisheries Sciences University, Nandinagar.

Dharanesh Gangaiah's education history begins in 1999 when they enrolled at Karnataka Veterinary, Animal & Fisheries Sciences University, Nandinagar. Dharanesh pursued a Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (DVM) degree, achieving a Class Rank of #1 upon completion in 2004. Following this, they pursued further education at G. B. Pant University of Agriculture & Technology. From 2005 to 2007, they obtained a Master of Veterinary Science degree with Distinction, specializing in Veterinary Public Health. Finally, in 2007, Dharanesh Gangaiah enrolled at The Ohio State University to pursue a Ph.D. in Microbiology, which they completed in 2011, earning a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree.
