James Thomas

James Thomas serves as the Chief Executive at Birmingham Children's Trust since December 2023. With extensive experience in children's services, James holds the position of ADCS Lead on Multi-Agency Safeguarding for the Association of Directors of Children's Services since April 2017, actively participating in significant safeguarding initiatives, including the DfE's Safeguarding Reform Implementation Board. Previous roles include Corporate Director at the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, Interim Chief Executive Officer of Northamptonshire Children's Trust, and Director of Children's Services for Richmond-Upon-Thames Council. James has also worked as a consultant in safeguarding and has held various leadership positions across councils, focusing on improving children's services and driving strategic improvements. Education includes a Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Glasgow and a Bachelor's degree in Modern History from the University of Oxford.
