Veterinary Taxonomist at Bitwerx

Joy Leonard is a veterinary taxonomist at Bitwerx. Joy has also worked as a clinical insights analyst, veterinary assistant, space planning assistant, graphic design and social media coordinator, and office assistant.

Joy Leonard has always been interested in animals and their care. Joy began their career working as an office assistant at a horse farm where they gained valuable experience in customer service and office administration. Joy then went on to work as a night watch at a horse show facility where they were responsible for the safety and security of the horses.

In 2008, Joy began working at the University of Kentucky as a space planning assistant. In this role, they were responsible for designing space renovations for office suites and classrooms, ensuring ADA and fire code compliance, preparing drawings and details for construction teams, and designing graphics for presentations and signage.

In 2015, Joy left the University of Kentucky to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. Joy worked as a veterinary assistant at Park Equine Hospital, where they were responsible for administering and monitoring patient anesthesia, maintaining controlled drug logs, maintaining surgical equipment and facilities, communicating with clients and referring doctors, scheduling examinations and procedures, and maintaining patient files for billing and recording purposes.

Joy left Park Equine Hospital in 2017 to join Veterinary Data Services, Inc. as a clinical insights analyst. In this role, they were responsible for analyzing veterinary data to identify trends and recommend improvements in veterinary care. Joy left Veterinary Data Services in 2019 to join Bitwerx as a veterinary taxonomist.

Joy Leonard attended Morehead State University for their Associate's degree in Equine Science and then transferred to the University of Kentucky where they completed their Bachelor's degrees in both Animal Science and Architecture. Joy then went on to get their Master's degree in Architecture from the University of Kentucky.
