Mike Tonu has extensive experience in the field of information security. Mike started their career as a CCNA Instructor at DNT Association, where they managed Cisco Networking Academy Program classes and instructed students on CCNA and "Fundamentals of Unix" classes from September 2001 to July 2003. Mike then worked as a Clients Support Engineer at Globnet SRL from July 2003 to February 2005, where they installed, configured, and maintained antivirus, gateways, firewall, and proxy servers. Mike also performed vulnerability assessments and OS hardening activities. From February 2005 to July 2007, they served as a Security Engineer at IM Sun Communications SRL, where they performed vulnerability assessments, risk assessments, risk treatment activities, and designed and implemented a log monitoring and analyzing system. Following this, they worked as a Consultant at Endava from August 2007 to March 2010, where they performed risk assessments, risk mitigation activities, and audited and consulted clients for compliance with PCI DSS and ISO 27001 requirements. Mike successfully helped clients obtain certifications in ISO 27001 and PCI DSS. Mike then joined Questrade as a Senior Information Security Analyst from February 2011 to October 2014, where they developed the company's information security policy, designed and implemented an information security risk management process, conducted risk assessments, and aligned controls recommendations with ISO 27002. Currently, they are the Director of Information Security at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP since October 2014. In this role, they established and led the Information Security team, hired security specialists, defined roles and responsibilities, and enhanced operational efficiency while ensuring strategic alignment with projects.
Mike Tonu obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Economic Cybernetics and Informatics from the Academy of Economic Studies from Moldova in the years 1997-2002. Mike then pursued a Master's Degree in Information Technology from the same institution in 2002-2003. In addition, they completed various certifications including AWS Security Fundamentals from Amazon in 2022, Advanced Infrastructure Hacking training from BlackHat Trainings in 2018, and CCNA from the Cisco Networking Academy in 2000-2001. Furthermore, they hold certifications such as CRISC, Foundations of Breach & Attack Simulation, Foundations of Operationalizing MITRE ATT&CK, CCSP, TCNA, CISM, and CISSP from institutions like ISACA, (ISC)², Tenable, and AttackIQ.
