Asma Day

Asma Day is a program manager at Blue Shield of California Foundation motivated by centering racial and gender equity in her work. In this position, she is responsible for executing the Foundation’s grantmaking process and providing programmatic support to strengthen economic security and mobility for Californians.

Prior to joining the Foundation, Asma served as a program manager at the Bay Area Regional Health Inequities Initiative (BARHII) where she led COVID-19 equitable response and recovery initiatives, including emergency paid leave and guaranteed income pilots. She helped to develop and manage multi-sector collaboratives and policy campaigns from design to execution that resulted in measurable impact on early childhood priorities in the Bay Area and led to four successful bills passing the California legislature in one year.

Prior to being at BARHII, Asma was a population health program manager at San Francisco Health Plan, where she managed the practice improvement program that incentivized Medi-Cal providers to implement systems improvement efforts. She also designed and implemented evaluations for multiple population health programs.

In addition, Asma has a background in wellness and fitness. She has developed and implemented pre- and post-natal health and wellness programs for immigrants and women of color.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in physiology, and an MPH in community health promotion from the University of Minnesota.
