Edward James Smith

Edward James Smith is a highly experienced machine learning researcher currently employed at Borealis AI since January 2023. Prior to this role, Smith was a visiting researcher at Facebook AI, focusing on 3D deep learning from October 2019 to November 2022. Smith's research experience includes a brief period at NVIDIA as a researcher and an internship at wrnch, where tools for pose estimation from RGB images were developed using Convolutional Neural Networks. Smith has a diverse background in software development and IT consulting from experiences at JSS Medical Research and tutoring roles at the Math Education Centre and Marianopolis College. Smith holds a PhD in Computer Science from McGill University, with a Bachelor's degree in Honours Mathematics and Computer Science from the same institution.
