Nicholas Molton

Nicholas Molton has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Nicholas began their career in 1999 as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Oxford. Nicholas then transitioned to the industry and worked as a Camera Tracking Research and Development Scientist at 2d3, where they contributed to the development of the boujou camera tracking product. During this time, they collaborated with various experts in the field.

In 2003, Nicholas Molton returned to the University of Oxford as a Postdoctoral Researcher, focusing on MonoSLAM real-time camera tracking in natural scenes. Nicholas conducted research related to Bayesian probability and worked with experts in the field.

From 2004 to 2008, Nicholas Molton served as a Graphics Team Leader at Imagineer Systems (a division of Boris FX). Here, they worked on the development of the Mogul visual effects finishing tool, specifically focusing on 3D image compositing and high-performance playback. Nicholas also played a crucial role in developing OpenRL, a node-based image processing framework.

Their work experience also includes a long tenure at Mirriad, starting in 2008. During their time at Mirriad, Nicholas Molton held the role of a Computer Vision (SLAM) and 3D Graphics Scientist. Their contributions include developing offline and real-time camera trackers and extending the tracker to support 360 video for online VR. Nicholas also developed a SLAM system for a pan-tilt-zoom camera to add virtual elements during live sports events.

Most recently, Nicholas Molton joined Boris FX as a Research Engineer in 2022, where they continue to contribute their expertise in the field.

Nicholas Molton completed their bachelor's degree in the "Special Engineering Programme" at Brunel University London from 1991 to 1995. Nicholas then pursued further studies and obtained their DPhil in "Computer Vision" from the University of Oxford between 1995 and 1999.
