Yuki Sugimoto

Senior Scientist at Breaking

Yuki Sugimoto is a highly experienced scientist specializing in genetic engineering and microbiome research. Currently serving as a Senior Scientist at Breaking since April 2024, Yuki previously worked as Scientist II at Pivot Bio, focusing on developing genetic tools for non-model bacteria and genome editing. Prior to that position, Yuki held the role of Senior Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School, where immunomodulatory lipids from gut bacteria were investigated, involving genetic engineering of anaerobic bacteria and small molecule analysis. Earlier research endeavors included a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position at Princeton University, concentrating on small molecules from the human microbiome, and roles at the Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology. Yuki holds a Ph.D. and Diplom in Biochemistry from Friedrich Schiller University Jena, and a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Science and Technology from Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology.
