Lakshmi Sarma Ramani has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning over several years. Lakshmi started their career as a Congressional Intern in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1995. After that, they worked as an Assistant Counsel at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Office of General Counsel, where they advised on tax matters and represented the Department of Revenue in negotiations.
Ramani then joined Tillinghast Licht as an Associate, specializing in Public Finance and Tax. In this role, they represented various organizations in multi-million dollar financing transactions and prepared tax-exempt status applications for non-profit organizations.
Lakshmi later worked at Sprint as a Counsel, providing legal counsel to senior management and handling complex wireless network acquisitions. Following that, Ramani joined The Nature Conservancy as a Senior Attorney-Corporate Services. In this role, they advised executives on global finance, investments, privacy, cybersecurity, and regulatory issues. Lakshmi also played a key role in expanding the organization's fundraising and marketing activities internationally.
Ramani then served as the General Counsel and Assistant Secretary at the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Here, they managed the legal department and oversaw all legal work for the organization, which included approximately 300 affiliates and two accreditation programs.
After their tenure at NAEYC, Ramani joined the American Cancer Society as the Privacy Official and Assistant General Counsel. In this position, they advised on privacy, compliance, and data security matters and responded to fraudulent fundraising organizations in coordination with state regulators.
Currently, Ramani is working at Outside GC LLC as a Partner. In this role, they serve as General Counsel for various non-profit organizations and small companies, providing legal advice on governance, tax, marketing, technology, privacy, and transactional matters to senior executives and in-house legal departments.
Recently, they have also taken on a new role as the Director of Compliance & Ethics at Briefly, where they oversee compliance efforts and promotes ethical practices within the organization.
Lakshmi Sarma Ramani has a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in English with a concentration in Women's Studies from Clark University. Lakshmi also holds a Doctor of Law (JD) degree from Temple University - James E. Beasley School of Law. In addition, they completed a Law School semester abroad at Temple University Japan. Lakshmi has been admitted to the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island Bar.
